Kappa Sigma Spring Parents' Weekends 2015

Dear Tau Alumni, Parents, & Actives,

This year marks the start of a new tradition for the Parents' Association. In years past, Spring Parents' Weekend was a single weekend event for both moms and dads of Tau Chapter actives. This year, moms and dads got their own special Kappa Sigma weekend to spend with their sons.

Mother-Son Weekend

photoTau Chapter moms and sons gathered in Austin February 27 - March 1 to celebrate Mother-Son Weekend, deemed as a huge success by all who attended in spite of the chilly weather. On Friday night, mothers and sons gathered at the Kappa Sigma Lodge for a wine tasting presented by Fall Creek Vineyards, with light bites prepared and served by Tau Chapter's Chef Ryan. Kappa Sigma parent Michelle Guenther put together a wonderful senior slideshow, starting what we hope will be another great tradition.

On Saturday morning, Linda Williams and the Austin area moms hosted a brunch for the Kappa Sigma mothers at Linda's home. Elizabeth Horne and Leigh Stubbs shared their insight on the spirit and legacy of Kappa Sigma and Bob Ellis and Hagen McMahon shared exciting information about the new Chapter House. We were thrilled to hear about the progress and see the proposed site plans, elevations, and floor plans.

Wendy Askew, Lisa Colbert,
and Parents' Association Co-Presidents Heidi Black, and Jill Parsley.

On Sunday morning, mothers and sons met at Benji's Cantina on Sixth Street for a spectacular brunch and more quality mother-son time.

Many thanks to Mother-Son Weekend chairs Marian Cisarik and Dawnelle Doughtie for making the inaugural event such an enjoyable and memorable weekend. We're glad so many moms could join their sons in Austin!

Father-Son Weekend

Tau Chapter fathers and sons celebrated their special weekend on April 17 and 18 in Austin.

On Friday, a number of dads and sons played in the Tau Open Golf Tournament at Lakeway Country Club, with many non-golfing dads and sons joining the golfers for the tournament dinner that evening.

The golf tournament continued on Saturday for many, while another group of dadsand sons headed over to Capitol City Trap and Skeet Club for a fun round of sporting clays. On Saturday evening, Father-Son Weekend Chairs Bob and Gretchen Ellis hosted a wonderful dinner and party at their beautiful home. It was a fun weekend for everyone! Thanks so much, Bob and Gretchen, for organizing this fabulous and fun-filled weekend.

We wish all of you a safe and happy summer.

Spring Parents' Weekend 2014
A Night in Monte Carlo

Casino Night

The Tau Chapter celebrated Spring Parents' Weekend with a gourmet banquet and a Monte Carlo casino night theme at the Kappa Sig lodge on April 12. It was a wonderful evening for both parents and actives, with a special toast and gift presentation to the Kappa Sigma graduating senior class of 2014. The menu featured filet mignon, Caprese salad, eclairs and creme puffs, and a cosmopolitan drink fountain.

Following a beautiful dinner and senior presentation, parents

Parents' Weekend: Celebrating Kappa Sigma Families and the Brotherhood

Dear Kappa Sigma Parents, Tau Trustees, Actives and Pledges,

Thank you so much for making Fall Parents' Weekend 2013 such a wonderful celebration of brotherhood, families and friends within the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Parents' Association volunteers
Jan Patterson and Amy Peck.

A special thank you to Elizabeth and Ed Horne, Rhonda and Reggie Tuck, and Laura Pang and Bill Wheeler, who spent many, many hours behind the scenes to make Parents' Weekend the first-class event that it was. Elizabeth, Rhonda and Laura served as co-chairs and were truly a "dream team" to work with. Thank you also to the awesome volunteers who helped set up for the event and register guests.

We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to Leigh Stubbs, who creates and manages the Parents' Directory, a much needed resource for staying in touch.

The Silent Auction was a huge success! Thank you, everyone, who donated or bid on auction items. The money raised will help provide household improvements and repairs for the Kappa Sig Lodge and dormitory.

Congratulations to our Tau Man of the Year 2013, Jim Pritchett, a man whose character and accomplishments reflect the highest standards of Kappa Sigma in every way. I feel so fortunate that our sons have men such as Jim to look up to as stellar examples of the Kappa Sigma legacy. Thank you, Tau Trustees and Alumni, for making this legacy possible for our sons.

Thank you, Chapter President Hayden Witte, Actives, and Pledges, for helping prepare the grounds and Lodge for the event. The painting, scrubbing and cleaning were noticed and appreciated. Everything looked fabulous!

Kudos to Chef Ryan and the Kappa Sig household team for the wonderful food and service. You were great!

It was such a pleasure to be a part of this occasion!
